Work - A Holy Calling

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms" (Ephesians 6:12)

"As believers begin to express the life of Christ in their work lives, they need to be aware of another set of Satan's deceptions, namely, the religious spirit and spiritual strongholds. Though this is a new concept in the Faith at Work category, we need to be aware of them so we are not hindered from walking in power and freedom in our workplace calling. The workplace is the last place Satan wants to see Jesus. The business sector has a huge capacity to influence every sphere of society, so it would make sense that the enemy would do everything in his power to keep that from happening."

The "Religious" spirit at work

"I've heard many people express their bitterness at office politics (including myself). In today's world, we've all seen or heard about enough examples of professional misbehavior that most of us have learned to assume that we should distrust."

Misplaced Trust

"When it comes to changing jobs, the grass may look greener on the other side of the fence, but often when we arrive we see weeds, brown grass, and bare spots. We may change jobs thinking that all our problems are behind us and the new position will solve everything, only to be disappointed and disillusioned by what we find. Before jumping ship, take careful stock of your current job. If you move, take the right steps."

Steve Marr on Changing Jobs

"Everybody works. It doesn't matter if you are a student, you still have to work. If you're at home, you still have to work. If you're retired, you still have to work! Since work is such a major part of our lives, it's important to know what the Bible teaches about work."

Even the homeless living on the streets and in the woods have to work to survive at that level.

God's View of Work

"God's means of calling us into his mission and purposes of life can often come because of a work-related problem."

God's Method of Calling a Leader

"Twenty-five percent of companies have discharged employees for inappropriate or explicit e-mail messages. Recently, the CEO of Boeing was dismissed, not for having an affair with a staff member, but for sending her explicit material via e-mail, in violation of company policy"

A final word: Be strong with the Lord's mighty power. Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies and tricks of the Devil. For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms.
~ Ephesians 6:10-12
